Q. What is the "My Assessment Online Report"?

A. The "My Assessment Report” provides you secure access to detailed information from your assessment account about your property. Providing this information online builds on the popularity of the Online Property Assessment Information website and responds to Nova Scotia property owner requests for access to assessment information online. Q. How do I open the "My Assessment Report"?

  1. Go to the Online Property Assessment Information page.
  2. Click on the Property Search option at the top. Then click on the ‘My Assessment Report’ at the top or option #1.
  3. Read and accept the disclaimer.
  4. 4. Enter your Assessment Number and your Personal Identification Number (PIN) where prompted. You can find these numbers on the top right hand corner of your current assessment notice.
  5. Click "Submit".
  6. The report should open in a new web browser window.
  7. When you are finished looking at your report, close the report window.

This service works best with Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher and requires the free Adobe Acrobat Reader plug-in (available from www.adobe.com). If you run into difficulties, please contact us for assistance.

Q. I'm having trouble opening the "My Assessment Report". What should I do?

A. The "My Assessment Report" requires the following to display properly:

  1. one of the supported browsers:
  2. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher
  3. Firefox 2.0 or higher
  4. the full Assessment Number and PIN. This includes all zeros e.g. 0098760
  5. Adobe Acrobat Reader installed get Acrobat Reader
  6. pop-up windows allowed - there are many utilities today which allow you to disable pop-up windows (e.g. the Google toolbar). If you have one of these utilities installed, make sure you allow this site to open a pop-up window.
  7. cookies allowed - Check your browser's help documentation to see where to find this setting.

Q. My account is blocked. When will it be reset?

A. As a security feature, your account will NOT be reset until you have contacted us.

Q. What is a PIN?

A. PIN stands for Personal Identification Number. It is a number issued to identify you as the property owner. This allows us to provide specific information to you and only you, about your property assessment.

Q. Where do I find my PIN?

A. The PIN is printed on your 2010 assessment notice, immediately below your Assessment Number.

Q. Do I need a PIN?

A. Your PIN number is exclusive to your account and makes it possible for us to provide you, and only you, with detailed information about your property. You will need your PIN and your Assessment Number to access your information through the Online Property Information website.

Q. What do I do if I lose or forget my PIN?

A. Your PIN is printed on your 2010 assessment notice. If you do not have your notice available, please contact us. Our staff will be happy to assist you.

Q. How do I find information on other properties in my neighborhood?

A. Assessment values for Nova Scotia properties are available through our
Online Property Assessment Information database

Getting Started:

  1. Enter the Online Property Assessment Information database.
  2. Click on Property Search in the upper menu bar. Read and accept the disclaimer.
  3. In the upper menu bar, select to search by either AAN (Assessment Account Number) or Location (address).

Click on the Help link in the upper right corner of your screen for specific search suggestions.

You do NOT need a PIN to look-up the assessment values of properties across NS. The detailed information you get in your "My Assessment" report is not available for other properties.

Q. If I own more than one property, will I receive more than one PIN?

A. Yes. Each property assessment notice you receive will have a unique PIN that you must use to access information on the specific property.

Q. Why are PIN numbers provided to residential property owners only?

A. Most of the inquiries we receive from property owners are inquiries about their residential properties. The 'My Assessment Report' was developed to provide this information through our website. Please contact us if you would like information on your non-residential property.

Q. What do I do if I did not receive, lose or forget my PIN?

A. The PIN is printed on the top right hand corner of your 2010 assessment notice. If you do not have access to this, contact us.

Q. Can I receive my PIN electronically?

A. The number is printed on your assessment notice under your Assessment Number. If you did not receive or have lost your notice, contact us.

Q. What should I do if I suspect someone else knows my PIN?

A. Contact us.Our staff will be happy to assist you.

Q. Does my PIN expire?

A. Yes, the PIN does expire. "My Assessment Reports" are available online for two months following the release of notices. Your PIN is changed with each release of notices.

Q, Why are changes made to my account recently not showing on "My Assessment Report"?

The "My Assessment Report" reflects the information we have on your account at the time the assessment roll was finalized. Therefore there can be a 1 month - 3 month difference in the information shown in the report. If you would like to confirm changes or have questions, please contact us.

Example: The January 2010 notice and the "My Assessment Report"

The information printed on your 2010 notice and given in the corresponding "My Assessment Report" is based on market value as of January 1, 2008 and reflects the physical state of your property as of December 2009. Any changes to your property or account information after December 2009 will NOT be reflected in the report.
