The Property Valuation Services Corporation (PVSC) is a not-for-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors comprised of elected and administrative municipal officials. The municipal representatives are appointed by the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities (UNSM). The Board also includes the Deputy Minister of Service Nova Scotia (non-voting) and the Executive Director of the UNSM. The Board enables the PVSC to understand the needs of its primary clients, the 55 municipalities and property owners in Nova Scotia, while maintaining the autonomy necessary to ensure a standardization of practice.
The responsibilities of the Board are:
- Establish a long term strategic plan
- Create multi-year capital and operational budgets
- Appoint a CEO
- Encourage partnership opportunities with stakeholders and others
- Report to the UNSM at its annual meeting
- Ensure external financial and quality audits are completed
Responsibility for assessment related legislation remains with the Province.
