Understanding Your Notice
What do I do with my assessment notice in January?
A. When you receive your notice of assessment in January please review the information contained on it to ensure you understand your current assessed value.
It is important to remember that property assessments are based on market value two years prior to the date you receive your notice.
If you have questions or feel the assessed value is not a reasonable reflection of market value as of the base date, we encourage you contact us at 1-800 380-7775.
You have the option to appeal your assessment. Please remember your appeal must be received in our office within 21 days of the date of service on your notice. Simply follow the instructions on your assessment notice. Please note that only your market value assessment can be appealed.
I appealed my assessment last year. Is the change reflected in this year’s assessment?
A. If there were any changes in the characteristics of your property as a result of your appeal they would be reflected in the new assessment. Your assessment is based upon market value data and your assessment is re-calculated using market value data as of a new “base date” every year.
If you would like more information on how your appealed assessment from a prior year relates to your current assessed value, please contact us at 1-800 380-7775. Our staff will be happy to assist you.
