PVSC Board of Directors

The Property Valuation Services Corporation (PVSC) is a not-for-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors comprised mainly of municipal representatives. This allows the PVSC to maintain a close relationship with its primary clients, the province's 55 municipalities, while maintaining the autonomy necessary to ensure a standardization of practice.

Board members are appointed by the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities (UNSM) and, as of Dec. 1, 2007 include:

• the former chair of the Transitional Board (term ends Dec. 1, 2008)
• three municipal council members from the Transitional Board representing the Halifax Regional Municipality, a rural municipality (meaning not a town or regional municipality), and a town council (terms end Dec. 1, 2008)
• three municipal council members appointed by the UNSM representing the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, a rural municipality, and a town council (terms end Dec. 1, 2008)
• three members of the Association of Municipal Administrators, each representing either a regional municipality, a rural municipality or a town council
• the Executive Director of the UNSM
• the Deputy Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations (non-voting member)

Upon the expiry of the term of any director, the UNSM shall re-appoint the director or appoint another person representing the same group and type of municipality for a term of three years. No person may serve as a director for more than two consecutive terms.

Any Board member who ceases to hold office or to be employed by a municipality ceases to be a member of the Board.

As of Dec. 1, 2008, the Board may appoint two independent members for a three-year term. These appointees may be re-appointed for a second three-year term.
